PM can perform duties till deseated by ECP: Ramzan

ISLAMABAD - Former Judge High Court and Senior Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan Ramzan Chaudhry said on Friday that Supreme Court bench has not stopped the prime minister from performing his duties, and till the completion of the constitutional obligations, he would remain chief executive of the country.
Ramzan Chaudhry said Constitution is the supreme law of the country and it has clearly given procedure of the disqualification of an MNA and till the completion of the procedure he cannot be declared as disqualified. Ramzan said that neither the Supreme Court, nor the Constitution stops the Prime Minister from performing his duties till completion of the constitutional procedure.
He said that as provisions of the Constitution, the Speaker will prepare a reference against the convicted MNA and then give a decision if he or she stands disqualified or not. If the Speaker thinks that he is not disqualified, the matter will end there, otherwise the matter will be sent to the Election Commission which will decide his fate within 90 days. To a question he said that confrontation among state institutions was not in the interest of the democracy and efforts should be made to avert such a situation.
Use of mobile phone while driving dangerous: Almost half of young drivers have admitted to using a smartphone to listen to music, read emails and check maps while driving, according to a research from RAC.
In its report on motoring 2011, the organisation said that although it is illegal to use a phone while driving, 48 percent of drivers aged 18-24 had admitted to using smartphone distractions, with 24 percent using an iPod to listen to music, 23 percent reading emails and 22 percent checking Google maps, BBC reported.
A further 15 percent said they talked to friends on mobile phone. Almost one in 10 admitted they had played games on their smartphone while driving, and more than a fifth (21 percent) had texted behind the wheel. The RAC said that while car distractions were a problem among drivers of all ages, with 12% of motorists admitting they receive or make non-hands-free calls while driving, the issue is particularly acute among the young a quarter of drivers consider mobile phone usage a bigger issue than drink driving. Adrian Tink, RAC motoring strategist, said: “Drivers using handheld mobile phones is still an all-too common sight, and one that appears to be getting worse.
“The popularity of smartphones and apps, especially among younger drivers who have grown up with the technology, risks creating a new generation of dri vers who believe using a phone behind the wheel is acceptable. This has to change.” He added: “At 70mph your car travels around the length of six double decker buses every two seconds if someone told you to close your eyes at that speed for that length of time you’d think they were crazy yet people are doing virtually the same thing by taking their eyes off the road to look at phones.”
Tink said 82 percent of drivers agreed that using a phone behind the wheel is dangerous, though a minority (14 percent) said they feel “confident and safe” doing so.
Chattan condemns PML-N MP’s rowdiness in NA: Pakistan Peoples Party Member National Assembly from Bajaur Agency Syed Akhundzada Chattan on Friday strongly condemned the attitude of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz parliamentarians for not joining the Fateha offered for the martyrs of Bajaur Agency in the House.
Talking to media-persons outside Parliament House he said more than 20 innocent people lost their lives in Bajaur blast on Friday morning. But the PML-N members refused to join Fateha and continued chanting slogans in the House during the `Dua’.
He said this is shameful as the victims of Bajaur Agency were only Pakistanis and did not belong to Pakistan Peoples Party. In Bajaur Agency a protest demonstration would be held to protest the apathy of PML-N parliamentarians. Responding to a question he said, he always condemned drone attacks and recalled that he had even joined the sit in of Pakistan Tehrik e Insaf in Peshawar against the drone attacks. He urged Taliban to surrender as innocents are being killed in bomb blasts.
